📍 About Sheraro Town

Sheraro (Tigrinya: ሸራሮ) is a town and separate woreda located in the North Western Zone of the Tigray Region in northern Ethiopia. Positioned near the border with Eritrea, Sheraro serves as the administrative center of the Tahtay Adiyabo district and sits at an elevation of 1,246 meters (4,088 feet) above sea level.

Situated near the Tekeze River basin and the lowland agricultural hub of North Western Tigray, Sheraro occupies a strategic location connecting key towns across northern Ethiopia, including Shire and Humera. The surrounding area is rich in agricultural potential, known for producing grains like sorghum and corn, as well as cash crops like sesame.

🏛️ Culture & Heritage

Demographics & Faith: Historically home to a vibrant community, the town's population reflects rich cultural traditions. The majority of inhabitants practice Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity, alongside a Muslim community and indigenous cultural groups.

Indigenous Heritage: Sheraro and the surrounding Tahtay Adiyabo lowlands are historically linked with the indigenous Kunama people, known for their unique traditions, language, and ancestral heritage sites in the region.
